This video highlights Eliana Yamouni. She is an incredible drummer and a member of the Santa Clara Vanguard Drumline. We all need to do a better job of amplifying the incredible contributions of women in Drumlines, not only because their drumming is superb, but also as an inspiration for our younger students. Representation matters.

About Girls March “We are the only music camp in the marching arts addressing relevant women’s issues and looking to fill a specific hole that we perceive in music education: the lack of supportive environments for women in percussion and the lack of female representation in percussion sections. Many girls are used to being one of the only or one of the few girls in a percussion section, and others still are being pushed to play instruments other than percussion. Can someone please explain to me why this exists? A lot video that’s purposely zoomed in on the one girl on the line? This is so… Creepy. Why would you do this? It’s not like there are a bunch of videos around that just focus on one player. Just this one. Of Eliana. Does this not seem gratuitous or just really unnecessary to you? You can’t just ogle at every girl that makes these drumlines like they’re some sort of carnival attraction then wonder why they’re underrepresented in drum corps- especially in upper battery.
I don’t know if this is just me, but I feel like she sticks out in a good way with performance energy. Like every lot video I watch she gives the same 110% of energy making the book look effortless.
